Acceleration of Monte Carlo Path Tracing in the Presence of Anisotropic Scattering Media

چکیده
This paper describes a two pass algorithm to compute physically accurate solutions of the global illumination in scenes including anisotropically scattering media faster than previous methods. This is achieved by combining the strengths of finite elements and Monte Carlo methods. A quick rough solution is first computed with a view independent clustered directional hierarchical method. This solution is used then by a Monte Carlo view dependent method to accelerate computation of a final accurate solution by importance sampling.

Multiple Vertex Next Event Estimation for Lighting in dense, forward-scattering Media
We present a new technique called Multiple Vertex Next Event Estimation, which outperforms current direct lighting techniques in forward scattering, optically dense media with the Henyey-Greenstein phase function. Instead of a one-segment connection from a vertex within the medium to the light source, an entire sub path of arbitrary length can be created and we show experimentally that 4-10 seg...

This paper describes a two pass algorithm capable of computing solutions to the global illumination in general environments (diffuse or glossy surfaces, anisotropically scattering participating media) faster than previous methods, by combining the strengths of finite element and Monte Carlo methods. A quick coarse solution is first computed with a clustered directional hierarchical method. This...
متن کاملScattering Tomography by Monte Carlo Voting
In this paper, we propose a new tomography method called Monte Carlo Voting to visualize the crosssectional surfaces of scattering media. Since the incident light repeats a collision with small particles in scattering media, there are many light paths. To trace them, we use the Monte Carlo ray tracing algorithm and compute the attenuation ratio that represents the likelihood of hidden objects f...
متن کاملAccelerated Light Propagation Through Participating Media
Monte Carlo path tracing is a simple and effective way to solve the volume rendering equation. However, propagating light paths through participating media can be very costly because of the need to simulate potentially many scattering events. This paper presents a simple technique to accelerate path tracing of homogeneous participating media. We use a traditional path tracer for scattering near...
متن کاملFlux-Limited Diffusion for Multiple Scattering in Participating Media
For the rendering of multiple scattering effects in participating media, methods based on the diffusion approximation are an extremely efficient alternative to Monte Carlo path tracing. However, in sufficiently transparent regions, classical diffusion approximation suffers from non-physical radiative fluxes which leads to a poor match to correct light transport. In particular, this prevents the...
